today was the first day of school. My classmates are alright I guess. Never really talked to them much cept my group mates. The only pisser thing was that I found out that my 4 day week was allegedly taken away from my possession and I was forced into retaking my science module this sem!!! fug man... tml have to go school... Oh well on a brighter note, RAM KUMAR is gonna be my classmate again and Ms Joyce's my faci!
I look forward to school also because that's when I can see my baby! I send her to school and then back when it all ends. (thank goodness for concession! heh) I love you baby!
Anyways, today's lesson was rather interesting. We were given 12 art pieces and asked to classify them under the theme "But is it art?" So firstly, we had to define art
Something is classified as an art piece when
- It has an impact on people
- The number of people that can relate to it
- The degree of appreciation for it
- Whether it played or plays a part in the past or present respectively
It is not a piece of art when
- It has a primary objective
- It merely excites the senses
Sometimes these two can co exist for example: Plays (its a form of art and it is art but it has a primary objective of earning money from audiences)
It's really interesting to talk about though it might sound boring but ask this to yourself with respect from the above information.
Qn: If art is defined as that wouldn't graffiti be an art? I mean in a way yes its vandalism and some people do not appreciate it (especially cleaners) but it can have an impact on other people that view it and feel the angst and hatred that the vandal feels so therefore they can relate. But its primary objective is to prove that they exist and be a rebel. What has that got to do with anything about art? But then again if you look at it in a different perspective, it can be art too can it not? I think it all boils down to each individual and how they perceive what art is. I've been asking myself this question over and over trying to get an answer and I have come to the conclusion that art is art if it fulfills the requirements from above to them.
Oh well interesting lesson yea?
